how dare karl rove and his money guys try to do any such thing. and so yes, paul broun and steve king may be the prototypical examples of the kind of off the cooke end candidates that karl rove and the big money guys do not want in republican politics, because those are the kind of guys that lose senate seats that are otherwise winnable. but karl rove and his money guys kind of stand alone in that assessment. the rest of the party wants that. they want those guys. and they want it not naively. they know what they are getting. steve king and paul broun have been around for a long time. when the party stands up and says these are the guys they want, they know who they're talking about. they know who these guys are. and it is what they choose. so if you were a republican party stalwart, if you were part of the republican party and you loved the republican party and you wanted what was best for the republican party, what would you do at a time like this? what would you say? how would you try to fix this problem? well, today in washington house majorit

here's what republican joe scarborough said today about karl rove. >> is karl rove right that you got to be gatekeepers? people who are like party chairs, big fund raisers? >> course. i don't know that karl rove after his performance in 2012 should be the gatekeeper. he was inside the bubble as much as anybody else. >> ari, i'm not neutral on this because like the ad said, i am an obama following radical hollywood liberal. when they say that about ashley judd, i'm really hurt. >> well, you booked the right guest. we have that in common. >> ashley judd, look at this ppp poll of kentucky voters, ashley judd at 43%, mitch mcconnell at 47%. now, what that means is mitch mcconnell is in grave trouble. as you know, ari, an incumbent is supposed to poll over 50%, usually significantly over 50%. whenever they poll before bee low 50 they're in grave trouble. the presumption is if the election was held literally today, the undecideds would go to the challenger ashley judd. she's a shoe-in, is what i'm saying. >> there's a lot of time but there's no doubt that mitch mcconnell has a problem here.

and so it's very easy for karl rove to saunter in and say oh, well, we'll stop this. you can't fight something with nothing. he did not back a single winning candidate last year. so what is going to happen? that is the republican party. that's why they win primaries, and the republican party has a more serious problem, which is that's 30% of the country that holds those views, maybe more or less. they can win primaries. they can never win national elections. but what is this republican establishment that rove represents? it's money people. but where are the voters within the republican party. it's not just tea party, it's the real base of the republican party whether they call themselves tea partiers or not. this is what they want. >> i was struck by how unified the reaction against rove was on the right. i mean, all of the influential -- all of the right-wing blogs that are influential enough that a liberal like me knows to go read them. >> right. >> all of them unified with being just disgusted with karl rove for having suggested this. it seems as though this is a v
